ComicLink Comments:
Detective Comics #27 featuring the very first appearance of Batman has long stood as one of the most coveted comics in the world. In fact, if any comic has ever competed with the "King of the Hill" status of Action Comics #1, it is this one. Ask a group of serious collectors which of these two mega keys they would rather own with grade and value being equal -- Action Comics #1 or Detective Comics #27 -- and the number who take a stand for Batman might surprise you. Batman has always had the "cool factor" going for him and the general consensus has been that Detective Comics #27 has always been scarcer on the market in any condition.
The offered example of this mega-key introduction is the most affordable unrestored Detective #27 on the market. It is graded by CGC at 2.5 and has the appearance of a much higher grade -- one look at the front cover will make that obvious. It was downgraded for tape on the interior spine and a back cover with lesser eye appeal, but the front cover, the most important part, simply shines! Preservation is outstanding, with Off-White to White Pages, uncommon for even higher graded and much more expensive examples of Detective #27 and Action #1. Examples of this issue with this sort of eye appeal and relative affordability rarely surface on the market, and they tend to jump in price dramatically and unexpectedly as higher graded examples reach ever higher prices. There simply are not enough Detective Comics #27s on the market to go around and chances to acquire a complete, unrestored example at a price point that is reachable are unusual. Once sold, the opportunity may not arise again for many years, likely at a higher price point.
Of every character within DC's stable of heroes, Batman’s popularity throughout the generations is the most enduring. Bruce Wayne is endowed not with super powers, but with a unique determination that drives him towards superior effort and superior insight, enabling Batman to do superhuman things. That he is universally relatable to us all as human beings is why the character has remained a cultural icon for so long. Batman has been one of the most widely appreciated superhero characters throughout the world for over 60 years now, and has been featured in countless comic books, numerous movies, his own TV show, video games and more T-shirts than we can imagine. Batman has appeared more often on the silver screen than any other superhero and his most recent incarnation in Christopher Nolan’s mega-blockbusters has made the character more popular than ever. It is likely that Batman will continue to be a favorite of hobbyists, moviegoers, and children all around the world for centuries to come!
